Comedian Janeane Garofalo says she had no idea that she has been married for the past 20 years.

The New York Post reports that Garofalo and comedy writer Rob Cohen got married in Las Vegas as a joke in 1991. Neither of the two, who were dating at the time, realized that the marriage was legitimate.

“Rob and I got married, for real, which we had to have a notary dissolve not 30 minutes before we got here tonight,” Garofalo said at a reunion for the "Ben Stiller Show" at the Paley Center on Nov. 10.

“We were married for 20 years until this evening.”

According to the comedian, the marriage was dissolved at a TD Bank in Midtown, Manhattan.

Garofalo starred on the "Ben Stiller Show," for which Cohen was a writer, and has worked in stand up comedy, television, film and radio. Cohen is also known for his work on the HBO comedy “The Life & Times of Tim,” and went on to produce the CBS hit comedy “The Big Bang Theory.”

“We got married drunk in Vegas . . . We dated for a year, and we got married at a drive-through chapel in a cab. [We thought] you have to go down to the courthouse and sign papers and stuff, so who knew? We were married, and apparently now that [Rob] is getting married for real, his lawyer dug up something.”

Cohen is engaged to Jill Leiderman, a producer on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

The reunion, called “Oddly Familiar,” featured the show’s stars, writers, and creators including Ben Stiller, Andy Dick, Bob Odenkirk, and Judd Apatow as well as Garofalo and Cohen.

Director Judd Apatow asked the wayward former couple if either would see a financial gain from the divorce.

“I’m gonna get all of that ‘Reality Bites’ money!” Cohen joked.

Garofalo starred in the 1994 film with Ethan Hawke and Winona Ryder. The film grossed $21 million.
