The New Orleans Hornets general manager, Jeff Bower, was on Thursday appointed the new coach for the team after Byron Scott was fired.

Scott was shown the door Thursday morning after his Hornets got blown out by the Phoenix Suns on national television, dropping them to 3-6 on the season.

I want to thank Byron for the hard work he has put in during his time with the Hornets, club owner George Shinn said in a statement.

This is our best opportunity to reach our goals this season, Shinn added.
