Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were part of the reason an American Airlines flight was delayed at New York City's JFK airport Tuesday.

After having been allowed to skirt past airport security as they returned to the U.S. from their Brazil vacation Tuesday, the infamous couple were asked to leave the airplane and subjected to the required screening.

Kardashian and West flew into JFK to catch a connecting flight to Los Angeles; upon landing, they were reportedly escorted by an airline employee to a nonpublic area "in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight," according to Reuters.

However, as the couple took their seats on the flight destined to L.A., a TSA agent came and asked them to leave the plane in order to be properly screened. According to TMZ, they were quickly cleared and allowed to reboard the flight.

MTV News reports that the flight was delayed for 50 minutes due to issues with transferring luggage from connecting flights in addition to Kardashian and West’s security screening.

While the couple has not commented on the matter, American Airlines has not put any fault on Kardashian and West and are taking full responsibility, having released a statement explaining that they are investigating the incident, described as a lapse in judgment.

"The airline employee violated security protocols by permitting the travelers to bypass the TSA security checkpoint. TSA officials learned of the violation and conducted a private screening of the two passengers in the area of the jet way," TSA said in a statement.

"This was a lapse in judgment by one of our employees," the airline said. "We're working closely with the TSA and speaking to the individuals involved to better understand what happened."

According to TMZ, Kardashian and West were met by paparazzi but did not seem fazed by the incident.
