Louis Brown Jr., the father of O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife, has died in the seaside community of Dana Point, Calif., his daughter said Saturday. Brown, the father of the slain Nicole Brown Simpson, was 90.
“My dad was a class act and a gentleman who was always there for us -- and for Nicole,” she said. “He was a great dad. We are all devastated that he is gone. My dad had had Alzheimer’s for a while. When his condition took a turn for the worse last Wednesday, my mom called me and said to come home. I flew home from Italy as soon as she called. I got there at 6 p.m., and he passed away not even 12 hours later. My mom said he knew I was there. She said, ‘He waited for you to come home.’ He was at peace.”
Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman was slashed to death in 1994. O.J. Simpson was tried for the killings, but was acquitted.
Brown filed a civil suit against Simpson and won a judgment holding Simpson liable for the deaths. The jury awarded the Browns and Goldmans $33.5 million in damages. Simpson, 66, currently is in prison following an unrelated armed-robbery conviction.
Denise Brown told People her father was devastated by Nicole’s killing.
Brown, a World War II veteran, and Denise established a foundation to raise awareness of domestic violence.
He is survived by his wife, Juditha, daughters Denise, Tanya, Dominique and Wendy, sons Rolf and Tracy, and grandchildren.
