Michael Jackson, whose passionate fans launched the singer into superstardom, died at the age of 50 on Wednesday in Los Angeles after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to media reports.

He collapsed at his residence in the Holmby Hills area of the city in the early afternoon, after suffering Cardiac arrest, his brother Randy Jackson told CNN. He was transported to UCLA Medical Center where he died, the report stated.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, Lt. Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said in the report, with results expect in the afternoon.

Jackson was not breathing when L.A. Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his home at about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR on the singer and transported him to the hospital, he said.
