Mother’s Day Sales 2014: 29 Deals And Discounts For Last-Minute Gifts Or Shopping With Mom

Moms will be celebrated and showered with gifts to the (combined) tune of nearly $20 billion in the U.S. this Mother’s Day, according to new data, but that doesn’t mean you can’t save some dough by taking advantage of an assortment of great Mother's Day sales.

A Mother’s Day spending survey conducted by the National Retail Federation reported that total spending for the 2014 Mother's Day holiday is expected to reach $19.9 billion.

The NRF said individual shoppers will spend an average of $162.94 this year, down from last year’s forecast of $168.94. The NRF's president and CEO, Matthew Shay, said average spending per household for this year's holiday will likely decline because consumers are buying more practical gifts than costly electronic devices like tablets, smartphones and cameras this year.

Sales of flowers are expected to hit $2.3 billion, with more than two-thirds of all consumers likely to shop for floral gifts this Mother's Day. Other popular items will likely include gift cards, spring apparel, accessories, books, CDs, housewares, gardening tools, personal experience gifts, jewelry and outings.

Offers.com Vice President Howard Schaffer told Go Banking Rates that one survey found that shoppers plan to spend even more carefully on their moms this year than last year, with many individual budgets set at $50 or less.

“There are deals out there to accommodate this price range,” he added. “Just look online for deals and coupons before you buy.”
