Amy Schumer was the host of the 2015 MTV Movie Awards Sunday and no celebrity was safe from the comedian’s gibes during the opening monologue. After poking fun at the many A-list actors and actresses in the crowd, Schumer took a shot at Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential bid announcement Sunday.
“Hillary Clinton finally announced she’s taking Zayn’s spot in One Direction,” Schumer quipped. “The first woman in One Direction. I never thought I’d live to see the day!”
Schumer was, of course, referencing Zayn Malik, the English singer who recently made waves with his unexpected exit from the popular group One Direction. The joke must have been a last-minute addition to Schumer’s set because former Secretary of State Clinton announced her candidacy for president only hours before the premiere of the awards show.
The combination of Malik and Clinton in one joke was easily the most memorable moment of a lengthy monologue by Schumer that was preceded by a video montage of the comedian parodying popular movies from the last year.
