Technology shares lost 1 percent on Friday, with Apple shares leading the Nasdaq's decline, while the Dow and the S&P 500 edged lower.

Apple was on track to break a string of 10 months of gains on Friday, two days after the company unveiled its newest portable computer, the iPad.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 7.86 points, or 0.08 percent, at 10,112.60. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 4.82 points, or 0.44 percent, at 1,079.71. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 23.78 points, or 1.09 percent, at 2,155.22.
