Just two years old, the New Retro collection drew upon a timeless well of inspiration, creating timepieces that combine a modern sensibility with a vintage patina. Two smooth, cambered slices of sapphire crystal form the front and back of the case, joined by a ribbon of gold and falling off the sides like the edges of an infinity pool.

The newest additions to the collection, the New Retro Skeleton Tourbillon, are less “retro chic” and more “future sleek,” pairing a skeletonized movement (which restricts the inner framework to a few gentle curves) with a tourbillon at 3. The combination of the sapphire crystal case and open-worked mechanism provides a panoramic view of the ensemble. Drawing from de GRISOGONO founder Fawaz Gruosi’s view of the 1950s as an era of elegance, the architecture within is structured to resemble the grilles of classic cars.

Aligning the timepiece’s elements along a horizontal axis, de GRISOGONO brings a thoughtful upheaval to haute horology, reimagining function as form and the essence of timekeeping machinery as the design element to watch. The meticulous construction allows the tourbillon an airy framework of two vertical bridges that produce an air of weightlessness—a fitting tribute to the gravity-defying complication.

The New Retro Skeleton Tourbillon is available in a limited edition of just 25 pieces, crafted in white or rose gold. The dG 31-88 caliber beats at 21,600 vph and possesses a power reserve of 72 hours.
