New York Governor David Paterson said today he will not seek re-election.

Today I am announcing that I'm ending my campaign to run for governor of New York, Paterson said at a press conference in New York.

The announcement comes a day after allegations emerged that Paterson was involved in the domestic violence case of David Johnson, one of his top aids.

According to media reports, the Governor spoke on behalf of Johnson so that a woman who was battered by Johnson, would not pursue a protective order from him.

Its been an accumulation of obstacles that obfuscated me from bringing my message to the public, Paterson said today.

The Governor said he waslooking forward to a full investigation in the case.

i have never abused my office not now not ever, he said. I believe when the facts are reviewed the truth will prevail.
