Nissan Motor Corp (TYO:7201) will recall around 908,900 vehicles, including 98,300 in the U.S. due to a defect in an accelerator sensor, the Japanese company said on Thursday.

The flaw in the accelerator pedal's sensor, which was discovered in five models, including the Serena, Fuga and X-Trail, makes the accelerator unpredictable and could result in less-than-intended acceleration or, in the worst case, stall the engine, company spokesman Chris Keeffe, said in an e-mail, Reuters reported.

In the U.S., Nissan is recalling vehicles including certain Infiniti M models, while in Japan the company will recall about 764,800 vehicles, including the Serena, X-Trail, Lafesta and Fuga models, the report said. The company will be recalling some models in the Europe and Oceania regions as well.

No accidents or injuries have been reported due to the defect and all affected vehicles were manufactured in Japan between 2004 and 2013, Keeffe said, according to the Reuters report. According to the company, the defective accelerator pedals will be replaced and engine-control programming fixed to solve the problem.

Earlier this month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had reportedly said that it is investigating a possible defect in 110,000 Nissan vehicles in North America that caused the vehicles' transmissions to suddenly lose power.
