“X-Men: Apocalypse” star Olivia Munn responded to rumors that she and her boyfriend, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, are engaged with an Instagram post Tuesday. Munn, who is of Chinese descent, figured the best way to answer the question was a screenshot of a text message she shared with her mother, who was duped by OK! magazine’s fictitious story the day before.

Munn, 35, thought carefully about how she would address the rumor: “Answering yes or no to personal questions can be tricky because if you say ‘No’ it means whenever you say ‘No comment’ that kind of becomes your default ‘Yes.’ But since I'm doing press for the next few days, I didn't want to have to answer the same question over and over. So instead, I'm going to let my text conversation with my Asian mom help me out.”

Her mother, whose first language isn’t English, asked: “Oh man you engagement?? You know we love Aaron. I pray say thank for him all the times. I bet Chance [Munn’s dog] happy. Hey why don’t you tell me first?”

Munn joked back: “Oh my gosh, Mom, no. You know you shouldn’t believe gossip on the Internet. If I [were] engaged, I promise you’d be like the 8th person to know. Maybe 9th. But definitely way before the Internet.”

The rumor got started Monday when OK! published a story from a source who said the couple got engaged over the holidays. “Olivia wasn’t expecting it, but they’re so in love he just couldn’t wait,” the insider said.

Munn and Rodgers, 32, started dating in May 2014. For now, there are no official wedding plans.
