"The Originals" Season 2 midseason finale teases a not-so-Merry Christmas for Rebekah (Claire Holt) and the rest of the Mikaelson clan. CW

It’s beginning to look a look like Christmas – on “The Originals.” The CW series will air its holiday-themed midseason finale when Season 2 returns from its short hiatus on Monday, Dec. 8. Excited? You totally should be because Santa won’t be the only one paying New Orleans a visit in “The Map of Moments.”

During episode 8, an installment that featured Auntie Rebekah (Claire Holt) and baby Hope, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) segued into the Christmas spirit when he told his sister to meet him at a spot where they once celebrated the festive holiday. The reason Klaus ordered his sister to meet him at the safe house was because both Esther (Sonja Sohn) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) have motives other than keeping Hope safe.

“When Rebekah (Claire Holt) notices an unusual change in Elijah’s (Daniel Gillies) behavior, she asks Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) to meet her, reuniting them with baby Hope,” the synopsis for episode 9 teases. But the family holiday reunion will be cut very short when the three have to devise a plan for how to save Elijah from their mother’s spell – and that’s by taking Esther out.

However, the trio might get more than they bargained for when Esther makes an unlikely and deadly alliance. According to a promo video for the midseason finale, Esther will seek Mikael’s help to turn their monstrous children back into mortal beings. Esther’s husband agrees to help, but under one condition – Esther leaves Niklaus for him.

Meanwhile, Cami (Leah Pipes) will spend the holiday season attempting to save her own life. It was revealed in episode 8 that Esther is preparing Cami’s body to become a vessel for Rebekah when her daughter chooses to become human (an idea Rebekah is toying with since she realized her desire to one day have a family). Cami will reach out to Finn (Yusuf Gatewood) to help. But according to the synopsis, the momma’s boy will be “steadfast in his convictions.” Does this mean Cami will free Finn from the coffin Klaus stuffed him in as torture?

Kol (Daniel Sharman) will spend episode 9 attempting to win Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) trust once again by assisting her in a plan to take out Klaus. In the process, he’ll resurrect a spell he created in 1914, as well as share with the Harvest witch the resentment he has toward his siblings.

Hayley will also be forced to make a major decision in the midseason finale “that could change her relationship with Elijah forever.” In episode 8 Hayley declared that she was going to marry Jack (Nathan Parsons) to share her powers with her pack through a mythical unification ritual. This would allow her family to ditch their moonlight rings and not have to rely on Esther. However, her marriage to Jack would mean that Hayley would have to give up any feelings she has toward Elijah.

What do you think will happen in the midseason finale of “The Originals”? Tune in Monday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. EST to find out.
