To commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Cavalry, Christian pilgrims across the globe are retracing his last steps of sufferings on Good Friday.

Every year, the holiday is observed during Holy Week on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday which often coincides with the Jewish festival, Passover.

The day was observed with day-long prayers with many abstaining from any kind of worldly pleasures. Some pilgrims even try to re-enact the passion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, in what they see as an extreme display of devotion.

The Roman Catholic Church, however, criticizes such public displays as they feel that it distorts the real message of Easter.
