Porn stars are famous for taking it all off, but thanks to an award-winning makeup artist, some of them are revealing even more.

Melissa "Makeup" Murphy is exposing what porn stars really look like under their daily mask of foundation, mascara and eyeliner. She is posting before and after photos of 93 porn stars on her Instagram account to reveal her body of work.

They show the XXX actresses' blemished skin, greasy foreheads, wild hair and pasty complexions, which seems to have shocked many men and impressed even more women.

One of the guys who wasn’t pleased with the au naturel look commented:

“Outside of a couple of exceptions, these girls are all beasts without the makeup.”

Women have rallied together over the photos, coming to the defense of the makeup-less performers.

A Gawker commenter wrote: “I love these. I'm not sure about the guys who think porn stars just magically appear from sea foam inside a clam shell (looking sexy), but for what it's worth, this kind of rocks.”

The range among the porn stars varies, but many seem to be focusing on the “after” photos Murphy took as opposed to the “before” pictures which have gotten the most attention.

Cassandra Nix tweeted to Murphy: “Thanks for making me all pretty,” while Dani Daniels wrote: “@XmelissamakeupX you made me puuuurdy! :) thank you!”

There were some considerate remarks from people who saw the porn stars as people “who are often objectified and dehumanized,” but without their caked-on makeup it becomes easier to humanize them. Others even wrote they wouldn’t know who the porn star was on the street without their heavy makeup.

“A lot of people look at porn stars and assume they are in a constant state of eyeliner and push-up bra, that they were born that way as the ‘lucky women’ and that they couldn't possibly look like - or be - someone's sister or mom,” the Daily Mail quoted a blogger named Annie who posted her comment on MetaFilter.

“Also, a lot of guys seem to go around thinking there's this big difference between ‘average’ women and the Super Hot, which in a lot of cases is more about dedication than genes (makeup, clothing, breast enhancements).

“I think it's always better when we realize that Hot People are actually dimensional people with identities and relationships, which to me is the difference between finding someone attractive/sexy and truly objectifying them.”
