The New York Police Department has arrested a Staten Island man after his 23-year-old pregnant girlfriend was thrown to death following an alleged drunken car crash.

The crash that took place around 4:45 a.m. Saturday was so high impact that the Dodge Challenger, driven by Adem Nikeziq, 30, split in half it rammed into a wall and then a utility pole, NYPost reported.

The expectant mother Adriana Sylmetaj, of Great Kills, was ejected from the vehicle before the crash. She died after suffering severe body trauma.

After showing signs of intoxication, Nikeziq was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. He was later charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated, and driving while ability impaired by alcohol in connection with the fatal crash, an NYPD spokesman said.

Nikeziq and Sylmetaj were expecting a baby girl on April 12, as per a BuyBuyBaby registry listing.

In an online tribute in memory of Sylmetaj, Nikeziq was referred to as "a shame to the Albanian community."

"He's going away for the rest of his life and that's still not good enough for that piece of s**t. They couldn't save the baby. We're never going to be ok. None of us. We've experienced a terrible tragedy," the post read, as per Hollywood Unlocked.

"He's going away for the rest of his life and that's still not good enough for that piece of s–t," one grieving relative of Sylmetaj told NY Post. They couldn't save the baby. We're never going to be ok. None of us. We've experienced a terrible tragedy."

The deceased woman's brother Al Sylmetaj said she was excited when she learned she was going to be a mother.

"She couldn't wait to see the baby born. They were thinking on names but I don't think they came to any decision. They were planning on a baby shower," the brother told Daily News.

Eyewitness and owner of H20 Auto Spa Mario Basso told the outlet he expected the pole to be a wreck too after looking at the intensity of the crash, but was surprised that it was still in place.

Nikeziq reportedly had a history of drunken driving, including a 2019 arrest for driving with a suspended license.
