Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia have released the first official portrait of their newborn son Prince Alexander on Saturday. The baby prince is fast asleep in the photo clicked by none other than his dad. The fifth-in-line to the Swedish throne was born on April 19.

The first official portrait shows the Swedish royal baby Prince Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil, Duke of Söderland, sound asleep in a bassinet covered in blankets. He wears a white sleeper suit. The baby’s name and title was announced by Carl Philip’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, in keeping with Swedish royal tradition at a cabinet meeting Thursday.

The picture was first posted on the Royal Court’s website on Saturday evening. The newborn baby broke the internet as Swedes rushed to social media to share the photo. Stories featuring the picture of Alexander became among the most clicked on in the country, according to social media news site Socialanyheter.

The baby prince was born at the Danderyd hospital in Stockholm and weighed about 7 pounds 9 ounces. “The Marshal of the Realm is delighted to announce that HRH Princess Sofia gave birth to a healthy child,” said a statement on the royal Facebook page. The new parents are currently at Drottningholm Palace and said earlier that they were looking forward to spending time with their son.

A traditional Te Deum thanksgiving church service was held at the Royal Palace chapel on Friday. The 36-year-old dad attended the service for his son with his parents and older sister Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel. His wife was absent from the service as she was resting at home with her newborn.

However, the 31-year-old princess’s parents, Marie and Erik Hellqvist were present on the occasion. Representatives of the royal court were also present at the thanksgiving church service of the baby prince. Sofia and Carl Philip on Wednesday shared a picture of themselves with their newborn son while leaving the hospital.

The couple smile in the photo, which also shows Alexander fast asleep in his car seat. The little royal is the second child to be born to the Swedish royal family this year, as 38-year-old Victoria welcomed her second child Prince Oscar in March.
