If you're a billionaire, you can live anywhere you want, but the allure of New York City is pretty hard to resist. Of the 2,325 billionaires around the world, 103 live in the Big Apple, the highest concentration anywhere on the planet. Of the top 20 cities that are most attractive to the world’s wealthiest, eight are located in Asia.

This is all according to a new report from Wealth-X, an "ultra high net worth (UHNW) intelligence and prospecting firm," and UBS. Their "Billionaire Census 2014" recorded the number of billionaires around the world, their type of wealth, and where they all live.

New York City having the largest population of billionaires shouldn't be too surprising -- it's in the top five for millionaire density, bested only by Monaco, Zurich and Geneva.

There were 155 new billionaires in 2014, a 7 percent increase from 2014, and Wealth-X predicts there will be more than 3,800 billionaires by 2020. The combined wealth of the 2,325 billionaires adds up $7.3 trillion. New York City had the largest population of billionaires, by city, followed by Moscow (85), Hong Kong (82), London (72) and Beijing (37).

As a country, the U.S. has the largest population of billionaires with 571, worth a collective $2.26 trillion, but the only cities in the country that cracked the top 20 were New York and Los Angeles. In addition to Hong Kong and Beijing, Asia has six cities, Singapore (32), Mumbai (28), Tokyo (26), Shenzhen (25), Shanghai (21) and Taipei (21), in the top 20.

So how does one become a billionaire? Wealth-X says it's all about entrepreneurial spirit and ownership of private businesses. Breaking down the wealth of the billionaires, 46.9 percent of it comes from private holdings while just 5.1 percent comes from real estate and luxury assets.

It's also key to start pinching (or rather, multiplying) your pennies early: The average age of billionaires is 63, so a young go-getter in her 20s has decades to accumulate wealth.
