Discovery is taking adventure to the next level with the release of Discovery VR. The interactive, 360-degree videos can be controlled by users on their desktop or on their phone. To create an even more immersive experience, strap on Google Cardboard or your Samsung Gear VR and swim with the sharks.

With so much engaging content already available on Discovery Channel, it only makes sense for Discovery to get on board with virtual reality. Whether it's diving with sharks or surviving in the wild, chances are Discovery has captured it on film. "Virtual reality has the power to immerse fans in the action, and we look forward to telling stories in this new space like never before," Conal Byrne, senior vice president of digital media, Discovery Communications, said in a statement.

There are nine videos currently available for Discovery VR, but the company said it plans to unveil more videos in the coming weeks. The main draw is the "MythBusters" shark dive special, which features a dive down to a shipwreck and an experiment to see if sharks are repelled by the smell of dead sharks. There's also a "Gold Rush" clip, a trek through the forest with "Survivorman" star Les Stroud, freeboarding down San Francisco's famed Lombard Street and a surf lesson.

The Discovery VR app lets users watch the videos on their Android and iOS devices; Oculus Rift support will happen in the near future.
