Qualcomm Inc. said on Monday it planned to appeal an International Trade Commission ban on imports of upcoming 3G mobile broadband handset models and would renew a request for a stay of the ban.

Qualcomm said in a statement that patent claims made by Broadcom Corp. were not valid and have not been infringed upon by Qualcomm. Earlier in the day, the Bush administration said it was upholding the ITC order banning imports of some cellphones containing chips from Qualcomm.
