Over the decades, royal watchers and fashionistas have witnessed the fashion choices of female members of the royal family. One of these iconic women would be Queen Elizabeth II whose wardrobe has depicted how one can use fashion to project elegance, grace and power in an outfit.

In celebration of the Queen’s upcoming 90th birthday, a special royal fashion exhibition will be held to showcase Queen Elizabeth II’s fashionable pieces from when she was still a child until today, The Guardian reported. The fashion event, titled “Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style from The Queen’s Wardrobe,” would display more than 150 outfits from the Queen’s extensive fashion collection. The royal event will also be split into three exhibitions.

The said exhibition will also show how the Queen has used her wardrobe and fashion choices to “purvey power and regal dignity as a national figurehead,” as stated in the same report. Royal historian Hugo Vickers also commented on the Queen’s use of “power dressing” to convey subtle messages to the world. Vickers even made mention of how she would use bold colors and fashion pieces so that she could stand out from the crowd. “I think she uses her wardrobe very, very effectively to communicate with the world,” Vickers added.

Royal Collections Trust curator Caroline de Guitaut, who was tasked to handle the upcoming royal fashion exhibition, also stated that the event will reveal how the Queen has effectively applied the fashion trends over the years. “There is very definitely an evolution of dressing that the Queen has applied throughout the 20th and early 21st century to the best effect,” de Guitaut shared.

The first fashion exhibition will be held at Edinburgh’s Palace of Holyroodhouse from April 21 until Oct. 16. The second would be at Buckingham Palace on July 23 until October, while the last will be at Windsor Castle from September 17 until Jan. 8, 2017.

Meanwhile, the said fashion event would be one of the celebrations that will mark the Queen’s upcoming birthday. Apart from official gatherings and events, royal watchers are also expecting a special photo to be released where Queen Elizabeth II posed with her grandchildren Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The said image was photographed by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz. However, Kate Middleton was said to have taken a few shots of the Queen with the two children for the family’s personal album.
