Olivia Pope is almost back … or is she? “Scandal” may be returning to ABC on Thursday, Jan. 29, but things are not looking good for Kerry Washington’s character. The network released the synopsis for episode 10, the midseason premiere, but unfortunately the plot description doesn’t give any answers to fans.

According to the synopsis, the winter premiere is titled “Run” and will pick up following the events in the finale. Instead of adding a couple of teasers for the upcoming tenth episode, the synopsis simply recaps some questions that have been plaguing fans:

“Exactly what happened when Jake went to the bedroom? Who took Olivia and where did she go?”

However the network did release one juicy clue – “The fight of Olivia’s life will begin on the January return of ‘Scandal.’”

The Season 4 winter finale was absolutely explosive. Olivia had an epic showdown with her father, Rowan (Joe Morton), where she actually pulled a trigger on him. The gun ended up not being loaded, but still – she was ready to kill her father. Of course Olivia had good reason for wanting him dead. Rowan has a pretty horrifying past, and the latest addition to his deadly resume was hiring a hit on every B613 member – including Olivia’s boy toy Jake (Scott Foley) and her employee Quinn (Katie Lowes).

Rowan ended up leaving Olivia and promising that she’d miss him when he was gone. But Olivia didn’t have time to fully process her father’s final words because she was dealing with a whole mess of issues –liked leaked photos of Cyrus (Jeff Perry) and his prostitute lover, Michael (Matthew Del Negro). Olivia was able to “handle” the situation, and painted the XXX photos as a love story. And while Cyrus initially fought the idea, he eventually caved and decided to follow through with the plan in order to keep his job at the White House.

Of course that wasn’t the big shocker of the episode. It was revealed that Mellie’s (Bellamy Young) on-and-off lover, Vice President Andrew Nichols (Jon Tenney), had been in cahoots with Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi). The pair was not only engaged in a steamy affair, but was plotting to undermine Fitz (Tony Goldwyn). Their goal? Get the president to declare war with West Angola. Fans were left uncertain about their end game, but it somehow involved Olivia.

The winter finale concluded with Olivia admitting to Jake that she wanted both him and Fitz, and Jake was okay with it. The pair was about to engage in a steamy hookup, but Olivia ended up getting abducted while Jake was out of the room.
