Sean Penn, who was in a relationship with actress Charlize Theron for over a year, did not ask her for another chance to rekindle their romance, Gossip Cop reported Sunday debunking National Enquirer’s report. The couple broke up last June after being briefly engaged.

The National Enquirer report, cited by Gossip Cop, said that Penn “begged” Theron in an attempt to restore their relationship while they promoted their film “The Last Face” at the Cannes Film Festival.

“Sean’s wandering eye and his notorious temper did him in… Charlize didn’t want to subject her family, which includes adopted daughter August, to his up-and-down moods,” a source told the National Enquirer.

However, Gossip Cop quashed the National Enquirer report saying that Penn did not tell Theron to get back together and that the report was “untrue.”

The reason behind Theron and Penn’s breakup remains unclear. However, in an interview with Elle UK before her breakup, Theron discussed her experience of working alongside Penn in the upcoming drama, “The Last Face.”

“Putting aside that he’s my partner, he’s the love of my life; for the first time, I felt that my work was really bleeding into my life and that made it hard. There were moments where I was incredibly unfair to him. And moments where I felt like … he was incredibly unfair to me. But it makes you realize that no matter how complicated it gets, the priority is the relationship,” she said.

In the past, both Theron and Penn have had high-profile relationships. Penn was married to singer Madonna for four years, and to actress Ron Wright, again for four years. Theron dated Irish star Stuart Townsend and Third Eye Blind musician Stephan Jenkins.
