Slumdog Millionaire secured 11 nominations Thursday for the British Academy film awards, the Britain's version of the Oscars.

Golden Globe-winning Slumdog nominations are in the major categories including best film, best director with Dev Patel securing a leading actor slot while the film's Freida Pinto picked up a supporting actress nomination. The film also been picked to compete in the best British film category.

Slumdog was filmed on the streets of Mumbai with a largely Indian partly Hindi cast. The movie has been transformed from a low-budget outsider to an Oscar favorite.

The winners will be announced at Orange British Academy Film Awards, known as BAFTAs on February 8 at the Royal Opera House in London.
