Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, tried to show off her hockey skills as she participated in a practice session with the men’s England team on Thursday. The 51-year-old royal was casually dressed in a tailored jacket and jeans for the engagement. She joined the male players on the Astroturf, but unfortunately had a near miss when one of her balls went off course.

The countess put her hand on her mouth and was caught on camera with a surprised expression. She missed the goal and almost hit a group of photographers standing behind. The media, however, laughed off the incident and shared a few jokes with their royal subject.

The mother-of-two looked stunning in a navy tailored jacket paired with matching skin tight jeans. The jacket featured collars, oversize pockets, long sleeves and black chunky buttons. She accessorized with a delicate gold bracelet, earrings, watch and a Rio Olympics pin.

Sophie completed her look in a pair of neon yellow trainers. Her blonde locks were swept to the side and styled into a ponytail. She was visiting the team at the Bisham Abbey National Sports Center in Buckinghamshire as patron of England Hockey. Prince Edward’s wife has had the role since 2006, and was there to meet Royston Hoggarth, the new chair of England Hockey.

The British royal also showed off how fit she was at the engagement. The former PR director swapped her usual business attire for more casual outfit. Sophie’s outing comes just a few weeks after she carried out an engagement with her whole family.

While the Earl and Countess rarely involve their two young children in official duties, the couple were more than happy to take their son James and daughter Louise on the family-friendly engagement — a trip to the Bristol Zoo. As the patron of the Bristol Zoological Society, Prince Edward was invited to open the new Mahali Pori exhibit. The brother-sister duo looked very excited about the outdoor activity and were pictured crouching down to feed some hungry lemurs and meerkats.
