France, home to baguettes, the Eiffel Tower, and Jerry Lewis movie festivals, will maintain its sterling AAA credit rating, according to Standard & Poor's European chief.

"The rating for France is a stable AAA and that has been the case since 1975. We are confident on that rating," S&P's Carole Sirou said today.

All eyes were on S&P once again this week after the ratings agency downgraded America's long-term debt to AA+ from AAA. But France's rating remained intact.
