Easter
Even though it's a holiday, there are a handful of stores that remain open on Easter Sunday. Getty Images

It’s Easter already? The date of Easter Sunday moves every year, and in 2016 it’s earlier than most years. People who wait until the last minute to buy holiday candies and toys might be in a bind since some stores are closed for the Christian holiday, but some retailers remain open. To see where it’s possible to get bonnets and chocolate bunnies on the fly, read our list of stores open on Easter Sunday below:

Pharmacies

One of the best places people can go for last-minute shopping is a chain pharmacy. Most of them remain open, no matter what, even if it’s a holiday. There are some locations that are open 24/7 and others that are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Before you go, check the hours at the local store so you don’t make the trip for no reason. These are popular pharmacies to try: CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid and Duane Reade.

Discount Retailers

Some discount retailers will remain open also. This is perfect for shopping, especially for people who don’t want to spoil little ones with sweets and prefer more practical gifts like clothing. Unfortunately, Target and Costco will not be open on Easter Sunday. However, Walmart and Kmart have holiday hours. To be certain, check the websites of your local store to make sure the doors will be open.

Supermarkets

Supermarkets are a good place to turn since they often have prepackaged Easter baskets and also will have grocery items in case you forgot butter or mint jelly for rack of lamb. Stop and Shop will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shoprite’s hours will vary depending on location. King Kullen advises customers to contact the customer service department of your local store, but didn’t list Easter as one of the holidays they observe. Whole Foods have hours on Easter Sunday, but check local stores to make sure they are not reduced.
