Chicago residents and tourists will miss watching the Independence Day firework display at Grant Park, as part of Taste of Chicago event, as the city decided to forgo the celebration due to a budget shortage.

Traditionally, the city of Chicago had been launching its fireworks the night before Fourth of July at Grant Park, in addition to several other fireworks show at different sites. This year, the event will finish up on Sunday and there will not be a special gathering for the firework.

Instead, Navy Pier’s firework will take the central stage of this year’s Fourth of July event in downtown.

Navy Pier will display the firework on Monday at 9 p.m. and can be viewed from the pier and the nearby beaches.
