Witnesses at the scene of a fatal car crash in Fondren, Texas, say several people stole groceries out of an SUV with a dead mother and her two injured sons still inside.

Houston’s KTRK-TV reports the woman’s SUV collided with a second vehicle in a crash on Wednesday. The woman lost control of the SUV and crashed into a tree, killing her on impact and injuring her two sons.

Police say eyewitness saw people take groceries that were sitting in the front seat of the vehicle. The theft happened before emergency crews arrived at the accident scene.

The boys, ages 4 and 6, were taken to a local hospital. They are expected to survive. The second driver involved in the collision was interviewed and released, reports KTRK-TV.

According to police, the mother was not wearing a seat belt. Her two sons were not in car seats but were restrained in the vehicle.
