An undercover police officer on Tuesday killed a Times Square scammer believed to be conning tourists along Broadway and 46th Street.

The 25-year-old suspect and another man were believed to be conning tourists when they were approached by a plain clothes policeman and asked for identification, the one man then took off running into the streets and through the Marriott Marquis hotel's passenger drop-off area according to reports from Associated Press.

The sergeant chased the man who fired two shots from a stolen Mac-10 at the officer.

The suspect was killed near the Marriot hotel just before noon after the officer fired four shots at him. No else was injured in the exchange of fire.

The slain man was not immediately identified but had been wanted in other areas of New York city for various crimes according to reports.
