Venus Williams defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-4, 6-2 in a match Wednesday in the U.S. Open despite an injury to her left knee.

Williams, the No. 3 seed played against the No. 124 seed today with her knee wrapped heavily in tape. It clearly drove all the attention to it and made observers wonder whether she would be able to finish the game.

I'm still playing well and I feel I'll continue to play better as the rounds go. I'm trying not to make this injury a factor at all, Williams said according to the Associated Press.

I'm going to do my best to win every round. That's what it is for me, she added according to the New York Times today.

Williams is scheduled to play the Women's doubles 1st Round with her sister Serena on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
