Stocks opened higher on Thursday as upbeat quarterly results from bellwethers including Apple Inc offset signs of more labor market weakness.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 13.22 points, or 0.17 percent, at 7,899.79. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 3.59 points, or 0.43 percent, at 847.14. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 5.26 points, or 0.32 percent, at 1,651.38.
