Wall Street opened lower on Tuesday with investors booking profits one day after the S&P 500 turned positive for the year, while financials were in focus as about half of the banks under government review may need more capital.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 22.62 points, or 0.27 percent, to 8,404.12. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 3.10 points, or 0.34 percent, to 904.14. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> shed 8.53 points, or 0.48 percent, to 1,755.03.
