The new version of the song We are the World premiered Friday evening on NBC during the coverage of the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
The song, We are the World - 25 For Haiti, was recorded to gather funds for a relief effort for Haiti's earthquake victims. It features dozens of artists including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Pink and several rapper stars such as Lil Wayne, T-Pain and Kanye West.
The song will be for sale online through the official site of We Are the World Foundation and through traditional retailers. All the proceeds will go directly to earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
The original song in the 1980's was co-written and produced by Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones. Richie and Jones worked behind the scenes for the new version, and the voice of Michael Jackson from the original was included on it.
