William Balfour, the man accused of killing Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew last year, has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and home invasion.

Balfour, 27, is the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudson's sister Julia.

Balfour reportedly nodded to members of his family in the courtroom at Cook County Criminal Court before entering his plea, according to the Associated Press.

He is currently being held without bail, and will next appear in court on Jan. 27.

Balfour was indicted last month on three counts of first-degree murder for the Hudson deaths. Investigators say Balfour shot Darnell Donerson, Jason Hudson, and Julian King after an argument with Julia, his estranged wife.

Balfour is currently in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections. His next court date is January 27.
