Shena Hardin, 32, was forced to hold a sign that said, "Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a schoolbus,” after she was caught on camera driving on a sidewalk to pass a Cleveland schoolbus that was unloading children, the Associated Press said.

The woman stood in the cold on Tuesday at an intersection where she warned people about “idiots,” as mandated by a Cleveland Municipal Court judge for the Sept. 11 citation.

Hardin was ordered to wear the sign for an hour on Tuesday and Wednesday, Fox News reported. She arrived to the intersection bundled up to face the 34-degree weather. As she stood on the corner she puffed a cigarette and wore headphones to avoid comments and honking vehicles.

Her license also was suspended for 30 days, and she was ordered to pay $250 in court costs.

Lisa Kelley, whose 9-year-old daughter rides the bus Hardin would pass on the sidewalk, said the sentence was perfect for the crime.

"She's an idiot, just like the her sign says," Kelley told the AP, watching Hardin lean against a fence with her head hanging low and her eyes hidden by shades.

"She did this almost every day last year," Kelley said. "She won't stop laughing. She's not remorseful; she laughed at every court appearance. She's still laughing, so she needs to be humiliated like this."

Bill Lipold, 37, works near the neighborhood of old houses and factories. He yelled to Hardin as she stood with the sign, "Why do you hate kids?”

He told news stations that he hopes this punishment will work.

"How else are you going to stop her from doing it again? She really didn't show remorse for her action after being caught, so you've got to try something," he said.
