A woman in India has been arrested after she killed her husband and mother-in-law and then disposed of their body parts.

The incident happened last year but it came to light only last week. Vandana Kalita reportedly took help from her unidentified lover and a friend to murder her husband, Amarjyoti Dey, and mother-in-law, Shankari Dey, and dispose of their remains, police said Monday, India Today reported.

Kalita was taken into custody and she reportedly confessed to the murders. She also led the cops to the site where the remains were abandoned.

The gruesome incident happened on Aug. 17, 2022, in Guwahati, a city in the northeast Indian state of Assam. After dismembering the bodies, Kalita stored them in a fridge and left her rented accommodation. She came back to the house three days later and cleaned the place. Kalita, along with her lover, then traveled to Cherrapunji, around 90 miles from her hometown, and abandoned the remains there, police said, reported NDTV.

A neighbor reportedly told cops that she saw Kalita burning the bed and other clothes on her terrace and cleaning the place.

Kalita and her two accomplices are now in police custody. The charges against them are not clear.

In a similar gruesome murder, a man from New Delhi was arrested last week for murdering his live-in partner and storing her body inside a fridge at his restaurant. The 24-year-old suspect reportedly got married to another woman the next day after he strangled the victim to death. The incident came to light after cops received an anonymous tip about the murder. Police believe the suspect, Sahil Gehlot, murdered his live-in partner after the latter confronted him about his marriage. He faces multiple charges, including murder, causing the disappearance of evidence of an offense committed and giving false information.
