Could spending time on Facebook cost you your job?

Apparently so. A Swiss insurance worker lost her job after surfing the popular social network site while off sick, according to a report.

The woman said she was unable to work in front of a computer as she was feeling sick so she needed to lie in the dark. The problem began when the company she worked for, insurer Nationale Suisse, said they saw she was active on Facebook which led them to lose trust in her work ethics.

This abuse of trust, rather than the activity on Facebook, led to the ending of the work contract, it said.

In response, the woman admitted that she had in fact been on Facebook, but not on her laptop but on her iPhone, according to the 20 Minuten daily.
