Volkswagen revealed on Wednesday blueprints for the ID. Buzz, an electric-powered VW Bus inspired by the classic one.

ID. Buzz is described as “sustainable and yet also extremely functional,” in a press release.

Carsten Intra, chairman of the board of management of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Brand, said in the release: “Manufacture and shipping has a carbon-neutral footprint. We are also using recycled synthetic materials and the interior is completely free of any real leather.”

The original Volkswagen Bus got its "hippe bus" reputation for representing "a new feeling of automotive freedom, independence and great emotion."

Inspiration from the original can be seen in the interior and exterior frame design, along with the two-tone paint on the outside.

The vehicles will go on sale in Europe later this year, but are not expected to be available in the U.S. until 2024. The technical details could be slightly different.

Volkswagen has not provided pricing for the ID. Buzz.
