Iran Mourns President Raisi's Death In Helicopter Crash

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was declared dead on Monday after rescue teams found his crashed helicopter in a fog-shrouded western mountain region, sparking mourning in the Islamic republic. Under the Iranian constitution, first vice president Mohammad Mokhber, 68, should replace Raisi until presidential elections are held within 50 days.

Iran Media Says President Raisi Died In Helicopter Crash

Iranian state media said President Ebrahim Raisi died on Monday after his helicopter crashed in a mountainous region of the country. Rescue teams had been scouring the area since Sunday afternoon after a helicopter carrying Raisi, the foreign minister and other officials had gone missing.

Iran President Raisi's Helicopter Found, 'No Sign Of Life

Rescue teams in northwest Iran early Monday located the missing helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi but no signs of life had been detected so far, state TV reported. Iran's Red Crescent chief Pirhossein Koolivand said rescue teams were heading toward the site after locating the aircraft.
