KEY POINTS

  • Roman Reigns recently called out The Rock while on a house show in Europe
  • A Reigns-Rock feud could see both sides invoking their lineage of pro-wrestling stars
  • The true buildup could begin as early as the 2023 Royal Rumble

Roman Reigns has been looking for a worthwhile contender following his victory over Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 38 Night 2, and fans could see him square off with another icon of the business.

The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion issued a sly call out of The Rock while on the company’s European tour, saying that “The Rock can get it too."

Building up to a feud between Reigns and his cousin is not as difficult as many would expect because of their history together.

Following his win at the 2015 Royal Rumble, Reigns was saved from a horrendous beatdown by The Rock and was booed heavily by the crowd despite the latter’s appearance.

With Reigns shedding off the babyface persona in 2020, it allowed him to find his own skin in his “Tribal Chief” gimmick, which worked to perfection as he won over fans across the industry while also adding more moves to his arsenal that fit a complete heel.

With Reigns seemingly gearing up for another feud with Drew McIntyre, his program with The Rock could begin to percolate after he comes out victorious over McIntyre.

Now serving as the biggest boss in WWE, Reigns can kickstart his feud with The Rock by issuing an open challenge sometime after the 2023 Royal Rumble as the company builds up their major storylines going into WrestleMania 39.

A Reigns-Rock feud is ready-made for a stage as big as WrestleMania’s and it could be then where fans see the two stars clash as was hinted during an episode of “Young Rock”.

The reigning champion could have a promo where he notes that only one member of his family is yet to acknowledge him, with The Rock coming out to greet him in the middle of the ring and saying that he does not need to since he is focusing on his movie career.

This will surely infuriate Reigns and while he swings a right hand towards him, The Rock could evade it and hand him a Rock Bottom, leaving the ring while the former is left reeling in the ring.

Reigns will go on to continually call out The Rock, with the latter rejecting him at every turn until about a month and a half before WrestleMania.

The thought of invoking their rich lineage of pro-wrestlers is certainly an appealing draw to most fans since the two have never met in the middle of the ring before.

With such high stakes on the line going into WrestleMania, WWE will have the task of building up their feud to astronomic proportions in order to bring in the crowd.
