Carl Crawford is being sued by the mother of a child who drowned at the former MLB player’s house last month. According to TMZ, Liban Hersi is seeking over $1 million, claiming the 38-year-old could have done more to prevent the death of her 5-year-old son.

Kasen Hersi died on May 16 at Crawford’s mansion in Harris County, Texas. Bethany Lartigue, a 25-year-old woman, also drowned after she jumped in the pool to try and save the boy when he was having trouble breathing.

Liban Hersi claims the design of the swimming pool was “unreasonably dangerous,” according to TMZ. Houston's CBS affiliate KHOU reported that Kasen’s father alleges in the lawsuit that Crawford was negligent in not taking “reasonable and necessary steps” to keep the boy from having access to the pool.

Kasen was reportedly visiting Crawford’s house with a family friend. The family of Lartigue said she had been staying at Crawford’s home filming music videos when she drowned.

Crawford released a statement after the two deaths.

“The tragic events that occurred at my home will be with me forever,” said on Instagram. “I'm at a loss for words. I've struggled all week to manage my emotions and I keep thinking of the families of those who've passed and their grief, I know they have it the hardest," he wrote. "They are the first and last thing l think of these days. Please keep them in your prayers, I know they will always be in mine.”

TMZ reported earlier this month that Crawford was arrested for felony domestic violence because of an incident in May. Crawford was accused of pointing a gun at his ex-girlfriend, choking her and slamming her head against a wall several times.

Crawford’s attorney denied the charges to TMZ.
