  • Ronaldo scored a brace in Man Utd's 4-1 win over Newcastle
  • He recently returned for a second stint at Old Trafford
  • Man Utd are set to take on Young Boys in Bern Tuesday

Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Manchester United’s 22-man squad for their 2021-22 Champions League opener against Young Boys Tuesday.

The upcoming match will be Ronaldo’s first Champions League trip with the Red Devils since 2009 final, which was his last appearance for the side before departing for Real Madrid ahead of the 2009-10 season.

Ronaldo, who recently returned to Old Trafford, netted a brace in a sensational second debut with Manchester United and helped his side defeat Newcastle 4-1 in their Premier League meeting.

Following the memorable home game last week against Newcastle, Solskjaer said the Portuguese star won’t play all the matches as it will be crucial to manage the 36-year-old’s workload in the ongoing hectic campaign.

On the eve of the Champions League match, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted that in the game against the Swiss club Young Boys, experienced players such as Ronaldo will help to calm and manage the match properly.

"I think, sometimes, you know, you can go far with youth as well but in some games, the experience will of course play its part. In other games, you need that youthfulness, that courage, that fearlessness. Tomorrow it’s going to be electric in there, we need to have players with that experience to calm it down and manage the game properly," Solskjaer was quoted by Man Utd’s media, as saying in a press conference Monday.

Meanwhile, Manchester United would still be without their No. 21 striker Edinson Cavani, who is still recovering from an injury he had sustained during behind-the-closed doors match earlier this season.

"He had a slight strain during the international week after the in-house game we played. He is hopefully back with us soon. He's working hard to get back," said Solskjaer.
