  • Lionel Messi's comment about coach Marcelo Bielsa has Leeds United fans talking about a possible move to Championship
  • The Barca captain previously said he'd like to play for Bielsa
  • Messi is also rumored to be considering a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Man City

Lionel Messi’s comment about his former coach had Championship club’s social media fans buzzing about possibly signing the Barcelona star.

Amid Messi’s Barcelona exit rumors, one of his past comments about his former coach conveniently resurfaced. The Barca star lauded Newell’s Old Boys coach Marcelo Bielsa, saying, "I admire Bielsa a lot. I would have loved to have had him as a coach."

This specific Messi quote was shared by Newell’s official Twitter account in June, shortly after rumors of the Argentine’s Barcelona exit began to spread. And since Bielsa is now handling Premier League aspirants and Championship league leaders Leeds United, Whites fans went crazy over it and started urging Messi to join the club.

Leeds fans have retweeted the post in which an old picture of Messi and Bielsa was accompanied by the past quote from the Barcelona captain. Upon learning about Messi’s current situation with Barca, Leeds’ die-hard fans started talking about making a room for the legendary player in the club.

“He’d look good in all white,” one fan wrote.

“We could probably find a place for you in the squad,” another fan commented.

With star player Jean-Kevin Augustin, who was once praised by Messi in the past, suffering from a recurring injury, Leeds United may have realized that the possibility of finally making it to the Premier League would increase if it signs one of the greatest players of all time. The English club is believed to be thinking about, but not yet considering, exploring their chances of landing Messi via his relationship with Bielsa.

Messi and Bielsa have a deep connection as both grew up in the town of Rosario. They also started their respective soccer careers with Newell's Old Boys.

Aside from Bielsa, Pep Guardiola was also linked to a possible reunion with Messi. Argentine and other European sources recently revealed that Messi’s rumored move to Manchester City is "real."

Just like Bielsa, Messi has also forged a good relationship with Guardiola in Barcelona. Guardiola, on his part, has repeatedly hailed “Leo” as the best player in the world. This has led to the idea of Messi finally considering a shocking move to Premier League.

Other reports claimed that Messi’s situation is now being monitored by Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, the team his former Barca co-star Neymar currently plays for. Along with PSG, Manchester United has also been included in the list of Messi’s possible suitors.
