Manchester City Is A 'Possible Destination' For $137M Goal Scoring Star: Report
KEY POINTS
- Robert Lewandowski is contracted with Bayern Munich until 2023
- He netted 48 goals last season for Bayern
- Bayern are valuing him at around $137 million
Robert Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi is reportedly seeing Manchester City as a "potential destination" for his Bayern Munich client.
Lewandowski’s current contract with Bayern Munich is due to end in 2023. The Polish star wants to play at the highest level for another four years and his agent is keeping all options open including Man City and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), reported German publication BILD.
Following the departure of Sergio Aguero this summer, Manchester City tried to sign Harry Kane from Spurs as a replacement. Since the Etihad side failed to secure a deal for the Englishman, Pep Guardiola landed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa at a Premier League record fee of $137 million. Guardiola is still looking to strengthen his attack and is firmly in the race to sign Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, according to the soccer website Teamtalk.
Bayern Munich have been linked with Erling Haaland and Lewandowski is not happy with these rumors, according to Sports Witness.
Despite being 33, Lewandowski is one of the best goal scorers at present in Europe. Last season, the Polish star netted an incredible 48 goals and nine assists in 40 appearances for Bayern Munich, across all competitions. In the 2021-22 campaign, Lewandowski has already scored 13 times and provided an assist in 10 competitive matches.
It is understood that Lewandowski is looking for a new challenge and may not sign an extension with Bayern Munich. To ensure not to lose their best player for free, Bayern could opt to sell the Poland national in the upcoming summer window at around $137 million, according to ESPN.
It was reported ahead of the 2021 summer window that Chelsea had contacted Bayern Munich over the transfer of Lewandowski. Meanwhile, PSG were looking at the center-forward as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, provided the French star had left the club this summer. However, no club managed to get hold of Lewandowski, who remained with Bayern for the 2021-22 campaign.

Meanwhile, when Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp was asked during an interview to name the greatest player he has ever managed, the Reds head coach took Lewandowski’s name, despite having some world-class players on his current squad.
"Robert Lewandowski. It actually won’t be fair to say that about any other player except Lewy. What he has made out of his potential, how he pushed himself to become the player he is today, that’s extraordinary. If every player has a development similar to Lewandowski, when I first saw him at Lech Poznan, then the football world would be completely crazy," said Klopp, who had managed Lewandowski at Borussia Dortmund.
