KEY POINTS

  • The Warriors may dangle James Wiseman and a future pick to get Pascal Siakam
  • The Raptors may entertain a good package deal for Siakam
  • The Warriors seem to be looking for a proven star this offseason

The Golden State Warriors know they need help fast, and the only way to take in talent is through trades.

One player reportedly on their radar is Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors. In exchange, the Dubs are allegedly willing to offer James Wiseman and the seventh overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft.

According to The Athletic, there is growing speculation that the Dubs will use their first-round pick after the Minnesota Timberwolves failed to land in the top three during the NBA lottery.

As a result, they now own the 7th and 14th pick in the coming NBA Draft aside from last year’s second-overall pick.

Putting all those together, pundits are speculating that the Dubs would use these assets to possibly cut a deal to bring 27-year-old Cameroon to the Bay Area.

If they succeed, this could give the Dubs a big boost, especially if stars like Klay Thompson can return to action for the franchise.

Giving up Wiseman would be a daring move, considering most see him as a potential future star.

Before he went out due to an injury, the 20-year-old averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 39 games.

Wiseman shot only 51.9% from the field, and critics felt he could have done better.

But even before he was selected as the second overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft, his ability to score was already criticized.

For a team that had players like Thompson and Stephen Curry, what head coach Steve Kerr truly needed was someone to man the middle.

Siakam could ably fit the power forward void the Dubs need. In 56 games, “Spicy P” normed 21.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

So far, there has been no indication that Siakam is on the block. However, most will remember that altercation he had with head coach Nick Nurse in March.

Unnamed sources later claimed that the whole thing stemmed from Siakam’s frustrations.

The relationship between Siakam and Nurse remains solid despite the row according to Toronto Raptors NBA beat reporter Josh Lewnberg.

But if one looks at the business side of things, moving to Golden State cannot be overlooked.

It all boils down to negotiations as both the Dubs and Raptors try to prepare for the 2021-22 NBA season.
