Dan Bane is Trader Joe’s chairman and CEO, a position he has held since 2001. He was the president of Trader Joe’s West back in 1998 and is now in charge of the company’s 530 stores across the United States.
Under his leadership, the specialty grocer which currently employs more than 50,000 workers has turned into one of the top supermarkets in North America and the largest private company in Los Angeles County. It has also received outstanding achievements, including second-best supermarket chain in the United States by Consumer Reports in 2009, most ethical companies in the United States by Ethisphere from 2008 to 2010 and spots #23 and #14 in Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work in the U.S. in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
It also ranked second in customer service in MSN’s Money Customer Service Hall of Fame in 2009 and was a top-scoring supermarket chain by Consumer Reports in 2014. His role as chairman also saw the release of “Inside Trader Joe’s,” a podcast with over five seasons and 24 episodes.
In 1969, Bane graduated from USC, where he finished with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. In 2012, he was awarded the Asa V. Call Alumni Achievement Award, the University of Southern California’s highest alumni honor, back in the 79th Annual USC Alumni Awards.
