Lights, Camera, Sex: Is Making Love Scenes Hot Or Not?
Acting out love scenes on camera isn't supposed to be fun. Or is it?
Lizzy Caplan recently retold the story of her first sex scene to Playboy. In anticipation, Caplan mixed Grey Goose and VitaminWater to loosen up. While she got through it, she also had to get her stomach pumped. Ugh.
Compare that to Mindy Kaling, who wrote in her new book that everyone loves doing sex scenes. Despite not having penetrative sex, "simulating sex can be pretty damn enjoyable as well," Kaling writes.
While other celebrities have offered differing views on love scenes, one thing is certain: We love discussing celebrity sex scenes.
Amy Schumer
Schumer talked sex with the New York Times ahead of her upcoming flick "Trainwreck." For the comedian, comical sex scenes weren’t a problem, but she was camera-shy when it came to intimate scenes.
Lena Dunham
The "Girls" star said to the Hollywood Reporter that she doesn’t see sex scenes as "mechanical"; instead, "it feels like someone f---ing you!"
Ellie Kemper
In the same interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Kemper said she's "so prudish that when I’ve had to kiss someone in a scene, I think for the next hour that we’re in love!"
Jon Hamm
The "Mad Men" star said that eventually actors get over the nervousness. "It’s like running in the rain," Hamm said. "There's a certain point when you go, … 'I'm already wet. I’m not going to get any less wet, so I might as well just enjoy how this feels.' "
Both Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire seem to be compiling a list of what celebrities have ever said about love scenes. Still, Marie Claire comes to the conclusion that the only person who likes to do sex scenes is Hugh Grant.
"I've always enjoyed sex scenes, though you're not really supposed to," Grant said. "The classic answer is, 'Oh, it's not sexy at all because there are so many technicians standing around.' But I've always found them extremely arousing."
Apparently, Grant and Kaling have something in common.
