A 21-year-old man in India has been arrested after he murdered his father, chopped the body into several pieces and then dumped the parts into a well earlier this month, according to authorities.

The son bashed his father using a rod on Dec. 6 following an argument, killing him, The Times of India reported. The son then cut the body into 10 to 15 pieces in Karnataka's Bagalkote district and dumped the body parts into a borewell in his field near Mantur bypass road.

The deceased was identified as 54-year-old Parashuram Kulali, while the accused was identified as Vitthal Kulali, unnamed police sources told the outlet.

Bagalkot superintendent of police Jayaprakash told the Times of India that Vitthal admitted the crime Monday during interrogation.

"It is learned that the deceased Parashuram was an alcoholic and quarreling with family members. He was survived by two sons and three daughters," the police officer said.

The incident, which took place in Mudhol, came to light Tuesday when police began an investigation into a missing complaint lodged by the victim's wife.

Parashuram's wife, Saraswati, was reportedly estranged from her husband and had been staying with her elder son for the past few years. The accused and the deceased were residing in the same house, the report said.

"Based on a missing complaint, we started an inquiry into the case. Suspecting his behavior, we picked up Vitthal for inquiry. During our investigation, he spilled the beans and revealed the entire episode of the murder case. The accused used a sharp weapon to chop his father's body in several pieces," Jayaprakash told the outlet.

The murder weapon is yet to be recovered, The Times of India reported.

According to the report, the father had an argument with Vitthal over some "silly matters" on Dec. 6 at his field, located at Mantur bypass near Mudhol town.

As the disagreement continued, Vitthal became angry and picked up a rod, which he then used to hit and kill his father.

Vitthal attempted to hide the body in the defunct borewell but could not do it since the diameter of the borewell was 6 to 8 inches. He cut his father's body into several pieces and then dumped the body parts into the borewell.

Vitthal told police that another person helped him in the crime. Authorities are still investigating and collecting more information about that person to arrest him, said the police superintendent.

Mudhol police visited the field and used an earthmover to dig up the area where the body pieces were buried.

"We have arrested the accused, and he has been sent to judicial custody," police added.
