  • The MLB remains suspended amidst the coronavirus threat
  • Players around the league are in an online tournament of the video game MLB: The Show
  • Joey Gallo and Bo Bichette are currently dominating in the team standings

There have been creative ideas proposed by the MLB to continue their season amidst the threat of the coronavirus and the most popular suggestion was to start the year in an isolated Arizona facility. While this has caused mixed reactions from people, an alternative to bring a semblance of baseball has kicked off well.

The league introduced the Players League where real athletes participate in a tournament of the video game MLB: The Show. The games feature a live stream of the athletes playing with a camera focused on them. This new dynamic gives the fans a view of how animated certain players can get when they’re playing a virtual version of themselves.

The games have started and Texas Rangers Joey Gallo and Toronto Blue Jays Bo Bichette currently excel in the standings. These two are one of the rising stars in baseball but they have also demonstrated excellent skills with the controller.

After another day of the tournament, Gallo remains undefeated in the league with an 8-0 record. On the other hand, Bichette is within reach with a 7-1 slate.

There have been multiple times that Bichette has displayed how fired up he gets while playing. The Blue Jay’s 22-year-old shortstop has had a phenomenal career so far but he has been outstanding online as well.

For the Texas Rangers, Gallo has been unstoppable and has led his team to a perfect season. His biggest win of the night came from a come from behind victory against Eduardo Rodriguez and the Boston Red Sox. Gallo was trailing 6-3 until he was able to turn it around.

He had his teammate Ronald Guzman at-bat and was able to convert on a game-sealing walk-off homerun off to the right field. Gallo won the game in a thrilling final score of 7-6.

“That was an amazing game from E-Rod. I did not expect him to play that well,” Gallo said.

With the streams heating up and the situation in the real world remains uncertain, these online games have started to become a good alternative for the people to enjoy.
